Baroque mandolinist Sam Magdi was born in Montréal and later moved to Italy where he studied the violin. It was as an adult that he became captivated by the sound of the mandolin and began studying the instrument with Tamara Volskaya in New York City. He has also participated in master classes with Dorina Frati (Italy) and with Carlo Aonzo (NYC). Sam Magdi has performed on the mandolin at the summer music festival in Gubbio, Italy on several occasions and with Ensemble La Cigale as the soloist in a concerto by Emmanuele Barbella for the group’s “Un Jardin Musical” concert in May 2013. He presently studies the mandolin with Madeleine Owen.
