Aurélie Zygel-Basso, recitation, is a professor of French literature at the Université de Sherbrooke (Québec). She completed doctoral and postdoctoral research concerning fairy tale illustrations of the XVIIIth century (Université de Paris-IV Sorbonne and the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (2009-2011).

Aurélie Zygel-Basso’s interest in reading fairy tales aloud has led her to explore the baroque declamation techniques inspired by the works of Eugène Green and Benjamin Lazar. In 2005; Aurélie Zygel-Basso participated in the bilingual concert-reading “Twice Upon a Time” (Cinderella by Perrault and by Grimm) at the Alliance Française in San Francisco. In 2007 she performed a reading of Perrault’s fairy tales in verse with Madeleine Owen and Viviane Leblanc (La Nef) in Montréal for World Book Day and again in 2009 with Ensemble La Cigale. For 2010-2011 she took on Marivaux with a concert-reading of Le Monde Vrai with viol and theorbo (Elin Soderstrom and Madeleine Owen of La Cigale). This concert was performed for an international conference in homage to Louis Van Delft at the Musée de la civilisation in Québec city, and for a conference of young researchers at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières.
